A Palacio Story

Established in 1977 by Apolonia Bermudez, El Palacio de los Jugos opened its doors in a modest building on the corner of Flagler and 57th Avenue. The concept was simple – a small takeaway featuring Chicharrones, along with freshly-made Jugos and Batidos (natural juices and smoothies).

Apolonia had a vision to bring the best Cuban dishes to her customers, while also creating a place for her community to find traditional Cuban delicacies and locally-sourced fruits.

Shortly after opening, she unveiled the Bodega, which became the place inside each Palacio where you can purchase eggs, cheeses, and tropical fruits like Mamey, Sapote, Annonaceae, Coconut, Mango, Papaya, Pineapple, and many more.

El Palacio has kept Apolonia’s original concept of an open-air restaurant along with its signature red and yellow awnings. Our Chicharrones (fried pork belly rings) have become a sought-after food by many, from locals to internationally-acclaimed chefs, who visit for the authentic Cuban experience.

Andrew Zimmern once said, “the deep fried, salty Chicharrones are nothing short of devine.”

While Apolonia has retired, her son Reinaldo continues to carry on her legacy and vision. He continues to cherish his mother’s cooking and her secret recipes to this day, sharing them everyday with customers from all over the globe at El Palacio de los Jugos
